Glenn to Guide Youth Men

The Blackburn Vikings are pleased to announce that Glenn Rees has being appointed the coach of the Victorian Youth Championship Men for 2018.

A life member of the Vikings, Rees has replaced Ben Walker who has stepped down for the time being to concentrate on family and business commitments.

Rees has most recently been the Assistant Coach of our Division 1 Men for the past three seasons. Rees was one of the catalysts behind the Division 1 Men’s recent success helping them to a 38-6 record over the past two seasons. Prior to that Rees was the Head Coach of Hawthorn’s Senior Men’s Program, leading them from to three Grand Final Appearances from 2005 – 2007 including a championship in 2007.

This is not the first time that Rees has lead the Vikes’ Second Division team. Rees was the VBL coach in the early 2000s leading them to a Grand Final in 2004.

BVBA President Dave Zennaro was excited for the future. “Firstly I would like to thanks Ben Walker for his efforts in leading our Youth League Men over the past three seasons. He has overseen the team move from Youth League 1 up to Victorian Youth Championship and being more than competitive. With Ben stepping down and with the culture of our senior program in good hands, in made sense to appoint from within. So we are excited to have Reesy on board for 2018.”

Open Scrimmages and Try Outs for the Men's Program will begin on Thursday, October 19, 26, November 2 and 9 at Slater Reserve. Interested players should contact info@blackburnbasketball.com.au.
