EDL Overview
The Eastern Development League is a Friday night competition run across the eastern region's leading associations — Blackburn, Bulleen, Camberwell, Darebin, Eltham and Hawthorn - built specifically to bridge the gap between domestic basketball and representative basketball.
It runs on VJBL rules, VJBL timing, and VJBL-standard opposition. For a player who's outgrown domestic but hasn't yet cracked a rep squad, EDL is the environment that gets them ready - physically, tactically and mentally - for what rep basketball actually demands.
There's no separate trial. Every athlete who tries out for VJBL is automatically considered for EDL. If a rep spot doesn't come your way this year, an EDL offer might — and it keeps you exactly one step from where you want to be.

The EDL is where players who are ready for more than domestic, but not quite locked into a VJBL squad. Get the closest thing to a rep season on offer. Same format, same intensity, same weekly grind. Just one more step to climb.
What to expect?
High Performance Program access - EDL and VJBL athletes get exclusive access to our High Performance Program, run by Basketball Development Coordinator James Tanner
Vikings Breakfast Club - a free, weekly shooting session with James Tanner, open to every EDL and VJBL player who wants extra reps before everyone else is out of bed
Friday night fixtures - home and away against Camberwell, Bulleen, Darebin, Eltham and Hawthorn, at local eastern venues
Weekly squad training - coached by Vikings coaching staff, focused on the individual and team skills that translate straight into rep basketball
Expressions of interest are open now. Every VJBL tryout attendee is automatically in the running for EDL — so if you're on the fence about rep, this is your no-lose move.
