Eastern Development League (EDL) - Friday nights, VJBL rules, Vikings jersey.
The EDL sits between domestic and rep. It's a Friday night competition played across the eastern associations, using VJBL game format and timing — so the pace, the physicality and the weekly routine all mirror what a rep season demands. For a player who's outgrown domestic or narrowly missed a VJBL squad, it's the closest thing to the real environment.
You don't trial separately for the EDL. Every athlete who attends our VJBL tryouts is considered for both — if a rep spot doesn't come your way, an EDL offer may. One tryout, two pathways.
Vikings EDL squads train weekly with our coaching staff and play home-and-away against Camberwell, Bulleen, Darebin, Eltham and Hawthorn.
It works. In our first EDL season we had players step up into Vikings VJBL teams, and we expect more EDL athletes to earn VJBL spots at this round of tryouts.
The detail:
Offers made through the VJBL tryout process — no separate trial
Fridays, home and away, local eastern venues
One weekly squad training with Vikings coaches
Access to VJBL/EDL exclusive High Performance Program run by Basketball Development Coordinator James Tanner
Access to the Vikings Breakfast Club — free shooting session ran by James Tanner every week alongside High Performance
