From the 2027 season, Big V officially becomes the Victorian Basketball League (VBL) — a new name and identity for the competition that has been the heart of senior representative basketball in Victoria for 25 years.

The clubs, the rivalries, the community and the standard of competition aren't changing.
What's changing is the platform: a stronger, more connected pathway that links the VBL directly with the VJBL and NBL1 South, giving every Blackburn Vikings player a clear line of sight from junior development right through to elite senior basketball.

Blackburn Vikings has fielded senior Big V teams for decades, and we're proud to be carrying that legacy forward into the VBL era. If you're ready to test yourself against the best senior talent in the state, this is where you belong.

Playing in the VBL

A genuine pathway, not just a competition

Blackburn Vikings runs one of the most complete basketball pathways in Victoria - from Aussie Hoops through EDJBA domestic, MEBA and VJBL representative basketball, all the way to senior VBL.

Players who come through our junior program have a home waiting for them at the top level, and VBL players train and play alongside a club that understands development at every stage.

The move to VBL strengthens the link between the state's top junior competition (VJBL) and its top senior community competition (VBL), with NBL1 South sitting above it as the next step again.

That means clearer opportunities to be seen, scouted and to progress - all while playing for a club with a proud history and a tight-knit community behind you.

Men's and Women's programs

Blackburn Vikings fields senior Men's and Women's senior teams as well as youth-league teams, offering committed players a genuine opportunity to compete at the highest level of Victorian club basketball, regardless of where they've come from — through our own junior pathway or from another club or state.
